winning design

I'm somewhat suffering from Olympics withdrawl. After 2 weeks of non-stop olympic coverage, I've lost track of what's on during regular tv scheduling. This is good as it gives me more time to work on my stuff.

The winning design for the Royal Ontario Museum was announced yesterday. The winner is a German architect, Daniel Libeskind, who created the innitial sketch on a napkin while sitting in the ROM's cafeteria. This design is quite impressive and a departure from the typical buildings that are put up around the city. Bravo for the people who choose this design. This is a big leap forward for architecture in this city. Let's just hope there'll be more

pentagram

Today I attened the Alan Fletcher's ''The Art of Looking Sideways'' lecture at the Design Exchange in Toronto. He was one of the founders of Pentagram. A multi-disciplinary design firm, founded in 1972. It was an interesting lecture, he showed design in is simpliest and purest form, and draws influences from everyday objects as well as from life itself. At one point it reminded me of some of the excerises I participated in Grade 9 art classes. (My art teacher for 4 years was an excellent teacher, he taught us very advanced techniques) It's sad to say that I feel less creative now then when I was in high school.

kathy lee

I have spent over 3.5 weeks on redesigning my online portfolio and resume. I feel that I am very capable of getting a good job. In time I should be able to land a good gig!! Sadly, this is all I can say to myself right now, as I feel somewhat dispair over my current working conditions. You see, I am gainfully employed, but I feel like I'm working in one of Kathie Lee Gifford's sweat shops. Long hours without overtime pay, little or no respect, I could be here naming all the bad things about work. But I won't.

Actually I am hoping I can write on this as much as possible, it would be like therapy, I don't really care who reads this, I feel much better getting certain things off my chest.

salt lake 2002

TGIF!!! I'm working at home today, actually I am supposed to be off, but I promised work I would do some changes to this flash promo. While I work, I have the tv blarring in the background, catching the highlights of the 2002 Winter Olympics. News just came that the IOC has given the gold to Sale and Pelletier. The Russian pair gets to keep there gold medals too. I guess in the end everyone wins, but the sport itself. I am quite happy about this decision, judging creativity is so subjective, it all comes down to personal taste.

find love

How do I love thee, let me count the ways. Valentine's day is so lame, I have never understood why people wait until this one day of the year to celebrate there love, shouldn't lovers show there affections to one another everyday of the year, why wait to give someone you love flowers or to buy them gifts. Anyway, just my 2c. Anyway going out to meet my friends for a drink. Cheers!

toronto

Today I start to blog my somewhat mundane life in Toronto. I really don't know what to write, as I've never really kept a diary before. To start off I'll introduce myself, I'm an interactive designer, been doing this for over 3 years now. I studied fashion design at Ryerson and didn't do much with that, so I decided to try computer graphics. I am not a very good writer so I'll keep my logs really short and sweet. My ultimate dream is to apply for the Art Center in Pasadena, and complete my graduate studies there. I would have to wait a couple of years more before I am ready for that.
